Abstract
What is the status of race? How do we think about the current and historical forms of racism?, and what is its specificity in relation to other procedures of oppression and exploitation? Verena Stolcke reflects on these questions, expands and modulates them, addressing a key point of this conversation and of all her work: the need to understand the mechanisms of justification of inequalities. Her feminist gaze leads to an analysis of racism, cultural fundamentalism and xenophobia in relation to gender, sexuality, class and other constitutively intertwined dimensions of difference and inequality. Her empirically sustained reflections go back and forth between historical archives, biotechnological experimentation and ethnographic field data.
