Abstract

This paper analyzes the process of formation of HIJOS, a human rights organism that mainly gathers the children of "victims of state terrorism" which took place in Argentina during the last military dictatorship and the immediately previous period. From the analysis of the disputes over the membership of the group, we explore how this group has reactivated a discussion that has gone through all the human rights movement: who are the victims of state terrorism? At the same time, the ambivalence the group shows as regards the notion of "victim" is also analyzed. on the one hand they recognize that they are victims and that their parents have been too, and on the other hand they try to separate themselves from that notion because of the passive and depoliticized character it implies
