Focus and scope

Sociohistórica. Cuadernos del CISH is a semi-annual scientific journal. It publishes original and previously unpublished articles, communications, critical reviews, commentaries and bibliographic reviews in Spanish.

Sociohistórica is edited by the Centro de Investigaciones Socio-Históricas, CISH, from Instituto de Investigaciones en Humanidades y Ciencias Sociales, IdIHCS, belonging to the Facultad de Humanidades y Ciencias de la Educación, Universidad Nacional de La Plata and the Consejo Nacional de Investigaciones Científicas y Técnicas, CONICET.

The journal deals with topics related to the analysis of socioeconomic and political issues, cultural studies and the analysis of the labor movement, from the point of view of the Argentine and Latin American society. Aimed at researchers, teachers, directors, officials, professionals and students of History, Sociohistórica aims to position itself in a field of knowledge that especially but not exclusively articulates historiographical and sociological perspectives.

Submissions

Sociohistórica accepts original and previously unpublished articles on the analysis of socioeconomic and political issues, cultural studies and the analysis of the labor movement, from the point of view of the Argentine and Latin American society. In addition, it gathers articles that reflect theoretical-methodological debates in the field of Social Sciences.

Sociohistórica reserves the right to accept or reject contributions, according to their thematic scope and compliance with publication policies and standards.

There are no fees for submission, publication or access.

Once published, the articles will be available for anyone to read or download free of charge.

Authors are expected to respect the good practices and codes of ethics of scientific publications, that is, to avoid double submission, ghost and honorific authorship, plagiarism, data manipulation, conflict of interest and compliance with research ethics policies.

The opinions expressed by the authors are their sole responsibility.

OJS registration and login are required to submit items online and to check the status of recent submissions.

Peer review process

All contributions undergo a double-blind peer review system (an internal and an external expert reviewer) with the contribution of researchers from national, Latin American and European universities who make up their committee of external consultants.

Articles are preliminarily evaluated by the editors in order to establish if the contents fit within the scope declared by the journal.

The Editorial Board reserves the right to accept or reject articles, in accordance with thematic scope and strict compliance with the editorial rules. If this requirement is not met, contributions will not be accepted.

When the first evaluation is positive, two external expert reviewers specialized in the area are chosen to assess the submission of the paper. The journal uses a double-blind review system: the anonymity of the authors and reviewers is preserved.

Indexing

Sociohistórica is part of Núcleo Básico de Revistas Científicas Argentinas (CAICYT-CONICET), Proyecto SciELO (Scientific Electronic Library Online), Catalogo LATINDEX (Nivel 1) -Sistema Regional de Información en Línea para Revistas Científicas de América Latina, el Caribe, España y Portugal- and Indice de revistas en consolidación AmeliCA. The journal is indexed in EBSCO Fuente Académica Premier, CLASE (Citas Latinoamericanas de Ciencias Sociales y Humanidades), Dialnet, LatAm (Estudios Latinoamericanos), SHERPA/RoMEO, GALE Cengage Learning, Journal TOCs, 4P (UNIRED: Proyecto Padrinazgo Publicaciones Periódicas Argentinas), REDIB (Red Iberomericana de Innovación y Conocimiento Científico), Google Scholar. Sociohistórica is licensed under Creative Commons Attribution-Noncommercial-ShareAlike 4.0 International License.

Issues prior to 2019 were published as indicated, under Creative Commons Atribución-NoComercial-SinDerivadas 2.5 Argentina and Creative Commons Atribución -NoComercial-CompartirIgual 3 license.

Our institution promotes and supports the movement for open access to scientific-academic literature, therefore its publication has no charges for authors or readers, and encourages authors to publish their contributions in other institutional and discipline repositories, with the certainty that culture and knowledge are a common good that belongs to everyone and is meant for everyone.

Data availability policy

Sociohistórica promotes the transparency and reproducibility of the published research so that other researchers can replicate the studies described in these articles, either to corroborate or refute the obtained results, under the provisions of the Argentinian National Law No. 26,899 on Open Access Institutional Digital Repositories.

To promote the reproducibility of results, the journal requires authors to make available the data sets used to perform the research described in their articles without restrictions. In case of limitations for ethical or legal reasons, authors shall indicate how other researchers should proceed to access such data.

Any information and research data sent to Sociohistórica shall be uploaded and made available in SEDICI, the repository of Universidad Nacional de La Plata (UNLP), to increase compliance with the FAIR principles: Findable, Accessible, Interoperable and Reusable (it should be possible to find and access data, which should be located in systems capable of interoperating, and people should be able to reuse them in other investigations).

Authors are encouraged to store data in SEDICI, or any other research data repository (for example, FigShare, Mendeley Data or Zenodo), before sending their contributions to the journal. When the article is submitted, this would allow simply mentioning the URL where the research data are located.

Authors are requested to use formats that maximize data accessibility and reusability (for example, regarding tabular data, using a spreadsheet is suggested). If necessary, it is recommended that, together with the data, they publish the algorithms or pipelines that must be used with the data for their correct interpretation.

Copyright notice

Acceptance of the manuscript by the journal implies that it will not be presented simultaneously to other journals or editorial bodies and that the authors' patrimonial rights will not be exclusively transferred to the publisher, who will allow the reuse, after its edition, under a Creative Commons Atribución-NoComercial-CompartirIgual 4.0 Internacional. You may share (copy and redistribute the material in any medium or format) and adapt (remix, transform, and create from the material another work), provided that: a) you cite the original authorship and source of your publication (journal, publisher, and URL of the work); b) they are not used for commercial purposes; c) the same terms of the license are maintained.

The assignment of non-exclusive rights also implies the authorization by the authors for the work to be deposited in the institutional repositories Memoria Académica and SEDICI and disseminated through the databases that the publisher considers suitable for indexing, with a view to increasing the visibility of the publication and its authors.

Ethical aspects and Conflict of interest

The publication of Sociohistórica is the result of collective work and joint effort by the authors, editors and evaluators who are interested in the development of science for social and cultural development. The editors of the journal are committed to avoiding the existence of any conflict of interest between the actors involved in the production. All submitted texts will be evaluated for their intellectual content, avoiding that the authors' ethnic or national affiliation, gender, sexual orientation, religious beliefs or political philosophy interfere in the process. In the same way, external evaluations that pose any personal position to the quality of the work will be rejected.
Authors and evaluators are asked to state in advance any relevant conflicts of interest they might have, so that they can be taken into account when assigning evaluations. Should any conflict arise after the publication of the contribution, a retraction or a statement of fact will be made, if necessary.
“Conflict of interest” is understood as the situation in which there is a divergence between personal interests and responsibilities regarding the scientific activities carried out, whether as authors, reviewers or members of the editorial committee, that may influence their critical judgment and the integrity of their actions.

The editors of the journal will consider directives and guidelines that have been agreed at the international level to solve the specific problems of scientific publishing practice. The main consideration will be given to the guidelines provided by COPE | Committee on Publication Ethics. Similarly, guidelines by other organizations of recognized international prestige such as the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors and Council of Science Editors will also be considered.

Plagiarism Policy

The policy of the journal is to publish original and previously unpublished works, i.e. works written by those who declare their authorship and which have never been previously published in any print or electronic media. When submitting their articles, the authors declare to respect these conditions.
The specific procedures implemented are:
Upon the article submission, authors are requested to declare that the article has not been previously published or sent to other journals for evaluation. In addition, they are asked to declare that they are following the Guidelines for Authors, which state that the articles to be submitted must be original.
Upon receipt—and prior to beginning the evaluation process—, a search is performed with Internet-based research tools, in order to track other works by the authors and collate the title, excerpts from the abstract, the methodological section and the results of the article submitted for review, in order to corroborate its originality and avoid plagiarism.
When sending the article for peer review, the reviewers are also asked to pay attention to possible indicators of plagiarism, as they are familiar with the sources and literature on the subject.
The journal considers plagiarism the practices listed and explained below:
Direct plagiarism: Authorship is omitted and no quotation marks indicate what is taken from another text; or minimal changes are made in the text of another and it is presented as original.
Plagiarism due to improper use of paraphrases: Although authorship is noted, the original text is reproduced with too few changes that do not constitute a paraphrase.
Complex plagiarism using a reference: The original authorship reference exists, but the pages of the source are inaccurately indicated; paraphrases summarizing long texts, but little or no indication is given that the passage is paraphrased; absence of quotes in words and phrases of the original text that are reproduced verbatim.
Plagiarism with hanging quotations: A textual quote continues after closing the quotation marks, or it is omitted that the previous sentences correspond to the same quote.
Paraphrasing plagiarism: There is paraphrasing and the reference to the original source is missing; the paraphrasing is continuous and extensive; no material is added that allows interaction or enriches the information, although the source is mentioned. Also when academic works requiring original ideas and critical reflections on other people's points of view become texts that do not go beyond the repetition of other academic texts. The paraphrased passages are not clearly identified as such.
“Self-plagiarism” or recycling fraud: The appearance of a work is changed and presented as if it were a different one, and the indication that the work is being recycled is omitted; that is, it is a previously published work but with corrections or new additions.

It is not considered plagiarism when: The referenced material does not prevail over the work of the writer; it is used to allow the author to critically interact with the views of another person; or the argument of the original text is re-written in different words.
It is not considered self-plagiarism when: The previous work is the basis for a new contribution, and key parts need to be repeated to explain and defend new arguments. Similarly, when the author considers that what was said cannot be said in a better way in the new publication, and the repetition does not exceed 30% of the original work.

Digital preservation

Sociohistórica uses PKP Preservation Network (PKP PN), to create permanent archives of the journal for preservation and restoration purposes. PKP PN provides preservation services for OJS journals and ensures that these journals can be preserved for long-term access.

Privacy statement

Names and email addresses entered in the journal will be used exclusively for the purposes stated by this journal and will not be available for any other purpose or for any other person.
